History
St Mary’s is a Roman Catholic church in Fleetwood, Lancashire, England. Designed by E. W. Pugin, it was built 1867–68. It is an active church in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Lancaster. It has been designated a Grade II listed building by English Heritage on the 31 March 1978.

In May 1866 the foundation stone of St. Mary’s Church was formally laid by Bishop Goss and today’s Church constructed at a cost of £4,000, originally to accommodate 600 persons. The church was solemnly opened by Bishop Goss in November 1867. The present Presbytery in Kemp Street was completed in 1878, although the bay windows were to be added at a later date.

This photo was taken from the balcony which is where the organ in situated.

After the above photo was taken we headed back to the ground floor. This is a photo looking down the main aisle towards the altar.

We were kindly given permission to access the main altar area by Father Michael which allowed me to get this angle.

Here are a few photos heading back down the main aisle of the church. My main aim was to try and capture the beautiful stained glass window which has to be one of the largest I have seen.

Two slightly different views in the next two photos to show the stunning stained glass windows that run along the length of the church.

The final photo I took on this visit was of the Baptism font which is situated to the right of the main altar.

My thoughts
St Mary’s is a beautiful church with stunning stained glass windows of all shapes and sizes and not to forget the stunning stonework. The more I looked the more I found.

The church felt so calming and peaceful but the one thing I really liked here was the warm feeling the church radiated. The natural light streaming in through the stained glass windows & soft glow from lighting falling on the stone and wood all around me just put me at ease after a long day at work.

Time ran out on us rather quickly here and there is so much more we could have photographed if we had a little more time. I may have to speak with Father Michael and see if I he would kindly allow me back in to photograph some of the finer details within the church.

Finally I would like to say a huge thank you to Father Michael for allowing myself & Maureen to photograph the interior of the church.

Thanks for reading,

Alan Duggan
